Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councillors yet to return 20 vehicles

Transparency Intern-ational Sri Lanka’ s Programme for Protection of Public Resources (PPPR)  has complained to Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya that 20 vehicles handed over by the Sabragamuwa Provincial Council to its provincial councillors had not been returned.

These vehicles had been initially allocated for the use of public officials working on various special projects and were distributed among the provincial councillors after a proposal forwarded by Chief Minister Mahipala Herath was approved by the council.

Even though some of the vehicles obtained in this manner were returned to the council the following vehicles had not been returned:

Kegalle District - SG PF 9359, SG PF 936,SG PF 9366,SG PF 9373,SG PF 9376, SG PF 9375 , SG PF 9384 , SG PF 9390 , SG PF 9391,SG PF 9395, SG PF 9396 , SG PF 9408 , SG PG 4781, SG PG 0294 and SG PF 9405. 

Ratnapura District - SG PF 9378, SE PF 9382, SE PE 0299, SE PE 0289 and SE PE 029. We were informed that most of these vehicles had been taken out of the Sabragamuwa Province for electioneering. The PPPR has requested the Election Commissioner to order the immediate return of these vehicles.
