The Supreme Court has granted leave for petitioners to submit an amended petition before 3 June 2016, on a case against the establishment of a National Government filed by former Civil Defence Force Commander and former MP Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera.

Weerasekera and Kelaniya University Ragama Medical Faculty Professor Wimaladharma Abhayawickrema filed the petition before the Supreme Court arguing that the set up of a national government was unconstitutional.

Yesterday Supreme Court permitted the petitioners to amend their petition to include several new names included in the cabinet of ministers since the petition was initially filed.

The petition was taken up before Chief Justice K. Sripavan and Justice Upali Abeyratne.
