Cabinet gave approval to commence the second phase of the Integrated Road Investment Program to rehabilitate 3,400 km of rural access roads and 340 km of national roads in four provinces.

The proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to commence discussions with the Asian Development Bank for a loan facility and to sign the necessary agreements with the party was approved by Cabinet.

The program, which commenced in 2014, aims to develop connectivity between rural communities and socioeconomic centres in Sri Lanka by improving the condition of access roads. Under the second stage of the program, selected roads in the North, East, Uva and Western provinces will be developed.

Work on the first stage of the program is underway in the Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Western provinces. (CD)
