Colombo: The secretaries of political parties contesting the forthcoming local government polls are to meet with the Elections Commissioner on Thursday (1 September) to discuss preparations for the elections on 8 October.
Elections will be held for 23 local government bodies in the final stage of the polls on 8 October.
Thursday’s meeting will be the first to be held between the secretaries of 25 political parties contesting the election and the Elections Commissioner.
The Elections Commissioner is to brief the party secretaries on the laws to be followed during the period of the election and the action that would be taken against those who violate election laws.
Several independent elections monitors claimed that they have received a large number of complaints relating to election law violations that have taken place during the nomination period. (Colombo Page)
