Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa made a surprise visit to the project site of ‘Abimansala 2’ at Wilpitawatta, Kamburupitiya on Tuesday to see how Army engineers and soldiers are giving the final touches to the mammoth construction, just three days ahead of its auspicious opening by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The ‘Abimansala 2,’ established in line with the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ as envisaged under the ‘protective homes’ clause, will house about 50 totally disabled war heroes of the Southern Province for lifetime rehabilitation, care, and rest and recreation.
Attidiya ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ and Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala 1,’ which are in function now, take care of more than 100 such war heroes, while allowing their beloved ones to visit these resorts as often as possible.
The south-based ‘Abimansala 2’ wellness resort complex, built in a serene environment spread over a lush 10-acre land surrounded by waterways, comprises seven villas, five cottages, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy facilities, medical ward, swimming-pool, gymnasium, medical laboratory, dining hall, kitchen, an indigenous medicine unit, and residential quarters for staff.
The project is funded by the Brave Hearts fund of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Sri Lanka Army.
During Tuesday’s visit, Rajapaksa, together with Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, closely examined all wings of the new complex and shared views with those working there.
Commending the work that has been effectively completed, he gave necessary directions to the authorities in connection with Saturday’s program and other arrangements.
Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence Ioma Rajapaksa and senior military officers were present during Rajapaksa’s visit.
