Selection of new Chief Prelate for Asgiriya chapter on 7 April

The selection of a new Mahanayake (Chief Prelate) for  the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Sect will be held on April 07, 2016, the Asgiriya Temple announced.

The election will be held to decide on a successor to the late Chief prelate (Mahanayake) Most Venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thero, who passed away at the age of 93.

The Chief Prelate passed away on 9 March while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kandy Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state earlier in the day following a fall in the Temple premises.

The 93-year old Thera was appointed as the 21st Chief Prelate (Mahanayake} of the Asgiriya Chapter on May 8, 2015 following the death of Chief Prelate Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera on April 8, 2015.
