Series of programs in Polonnaruwa to mark Poson Poya

A series of programs will be held on 8, 9 and 10 June in Polonnaruwa under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to mark Poson Poya day.

The Bandaranaike-Senanayake Poson Maha Bath Dansala organised by the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association for the 57th consecutive year will be held on 8 and 9 June near the Polonnaruwa Parakrama Samudraya. The President is set to declare it open to the public.

Annually, the Poson Maha Bath Dansala was organised under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena, who is the Chairman of the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association, for the benefit of the thousands of devotees visiting Polonnaruwa to worship historically religious places in the area. The Poson Poya day program of the Sadaham Yathra Dharma Deshana will be held at the Medirigiriya vatadage with the participation of the President.

The Pulathisi Poson Udanaya program will be held in the premises of the historic Gal Viharaya on 8, 9 and 10 June. The sacred relics taken from the Nelligala Raja Maha Viharaya will be displayed to devotees at 2.00 p.m. on Poson Full Moon Day with the participation of the President.

A Poson Zone will consist of nearly 75 large lanterns created by members of the security forces, Civil Defence Force and Police while there will also be a Bhakthi Gee recitation.

The historic Poson Maha Perahera will start from the historic Vatadageya under the patronage of President Sirisena at 7.00 p.m. on 9 June. This annual Poson Perahera is organised by the Chief Incumbent of Solosmasthanaya, Polonnaruwa Panditha Vendaruve Upali Nayaka Thero, the Maha Sangha, state institutions in the district and the Pulathisi farming community.All these religious programs are organised to bless the country and the people with the dawn of the Poson Full Moon Day.
