The Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather alert.
The weather alert said that due to atmospheric disturbance near Sri Lanka, thundershowers could be expected.
It said that showers or thundershowers would also develop over most parts of the island during the afternoon and night tomorrow. Very heavy rainfall (more than 150 mm) is expected over hilly areas.
The weather alert said that there may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers and the general public had been requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning.
