Simple ceremony to mark President’s first year in Office

The Good Governance commemoration ceremony will be held on 8 and 9 January in a simple manner and the public are requested to hoist the national flag on 8 January to mark that political revolution, Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara said.

The Minister made these comments at a press conference held at the Government Information Department Auditorium.

Accordingly,  several simple events will be held, including religious ceremonies such as a Bodhi Pooja  in the morning of 8 January at the Kalutara Bodhi premises, a Pirith chanting on the same night at the Presidential Secretariat as well as a cultural show next evening (9 January) at the Independence Square premises.Presidential Coordinator Mr. Shiral Lakthilake addressing the media said that the President has instructed not to spend state funds for these ceremonies.  Accordingly, the Cultural show on 9 January also will be held with the cooperation of the Ministries of Cultural Affairs, Parliament Reforms and Mass Media.  The Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Police and the National youth Services Council’s dancing troupes will perform at the cultural show. 

Minister Jayasekara said that there is no necessity to hoist black flags in the country and all Sri Lankans are requested to hoist the national flag on 8 January to mark the 8 January political revolution.
