External Affairs Minister and constitutional lawyer G.L. Peiris claims the common candidate is making promises that are unconstitutional.
“The things they are attempting to do cannot be done under the terms of the Constitution,” Peiris said.
The common platform was making contradictory statements with regard to the presidency and its powers, Peiris said during the daily SLFP press briefing yesterday.
The Opposition was making absurd observations regarding the way the country’s foreign policy was being handled.
The minister said that the Government could resolve its international problems overnight by giving into what Western nations want.
“We will not submit to these demands. We believe the people will back our stand on this,” he said. (DB)
