President Maithripala Sirisena said he would place the country on the path to progress through an effective process which accepted criticism.

He made these remarks while participating in a meeting at his residence on 13 September with various organisations and trade unions that actively supported his campaign as the common presidential candidate. During the meeting, the President expressed his gratitude to all those who committed themselves to bringing about much needed political transformation in the country by supporting him as the common candidate to win the presidential election. He also said that he would take the country on to the path to success by giving room to their comments and suggestions in the future as well. “If the pledges given in the election manifesto could be fulfilled within 24 hours I am ready to do so with a single signature,” the President said.

The President further stated that his ambition was to move forward in the mission of the Unity Government to fulfill the people’s expectations for a change and to resolve issues through discussion.
