Sri Lanka will provide Afghanistan with knowhow, technology, equipment, and other assistance in demining operations.
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said this at a meeting with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul at the Economic Development Ministry office.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa told the visiting Foreign Minister that a team led by Sri Lanka Army had successfully completed demining operations in the North and East which were severely affected by landmine explosions during the anti-terrorist war.
The Sri Lanka and Afghanistan Government signed two agreements for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, science, technology and culture.
The Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul said his Government will be taking steps to strengthen the ties between the two countries in these areas, including cultural exchanges and tourism.
