The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday imposed a restriction on its members preventing them from participating at events organised by other political parties or making statements at news conferences organised by other parties. SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told the media that the SLFP Central Committee had made the decision in the best interest of the party. According to Yapa, SLFP members cannot attend meetings organised by other political parties without the consent of the SLFP leadership. The SLFP is currently undergoing a restructuring process following the presidential election on 8 January and the appointment of President Maithripala Sirisena as the Party Leader. The SLFP General Secretary added that the new decision was essential in order to ensure unity within the party.
