SLMC adopts resolution to support PC system

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMA) has adopted eight resolutions at the party’s 24th Delegates Conference, held on Saturday.

Among the resolutions that were adopted are the party’s stance to oppose any attempt to weaken or sabotage the existing Provincial Council system, devolve more powers to the provinces and to urge the government to fully implement the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) recommendations immediately.

The resolutions were passed unanimously by the party members representing all parts of the country.

SLMC Chairman and Parliamentarian Basheer Segu Dawood presided over the event while SLMC Leader and Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem delivered the keynote address.

The SLMC has also expressed concern over the intensity of the widespread religious intolerance that is currently being unleashed and spread unchecked.

In relation to post war political and humanitarian activities, the party has noted with regret that despite 43 months have passed since the end of the war, the war displaced and those in protracted displacement have not been duly resettled with satisfactory reparation.

Hakeem has said that the party members are raising questions over whether to support the Government in the issues in the Parliament next year.
