South Korean firm look to invest in Sri Lanka

A business delegation from the South Korean city of Busan, headed by Sri Lanka’s Honorary Consul in that country Jung-Taek Shin, called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday.

The delegation that comprised of leading business persons from several sectors including automobile and shipping said that South Korean companies are interested in pursuing investments in Sri Lanka and requested for the President’s support, which he assured.

Shin said he looks forward to promoting investment opportunities in Sri Lanka among South Korean companies while further strengthening the relationship between the two countries. The delegation also said there could be a lot of potential for tourism between the City of Busan and Sri Lanka since there is a large Buddhist community in Busan, a city of approximately 3.6 million people situated in the southeastern tip of the country.

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Karunatilaka Amunugama were present for the discussion.
