Spain to open Embassy in Colombo soon

Spanish Foreign Minister Garcia Marcia has informed Sri Lanka of plans by his country to open a diplomatic mission in Colombo soon, the Ministry of External Affairs said yesterday. Minister Garcia said that he considered this a timely development, having regard to the significantly enhanced ties between the two countries in a variety of sectors, the MEA said. External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris had bilateral discussions with Manuel Garcia Marfil, Minister of Foreign Affairs Spain, on the sidelines of the 17th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Algiers yesterday. “Minister Peiris briefed his Spanish counterpart on Sri Lanka’s current situation, with particular reference to issues connected with development and reconciliation. Trade, investment and tourism were other major topics, which the Ministers discussed at their meeting,” the Ministry said.
