Speaker to obtain legal advice on case against COPE

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told Parliament today he will obtain legal advice on the case filed in the Supreme Court on the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).

COPE member Bimal Ratnayake said that COPE members have received details of the case filed against COPE on the Treasury bond issue.

Ratnayake said that the courts cannot put pressure on COPE since COPE is a Parliament body.

However, he said, COPE members are not scared of going before court to make statements on the issue. (Colombo Gazette)
