Speaker urged to allocate separate land for protesters

Parliament yesterday urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to allocate separate land for protesters near Parliament.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament that some Parliamentarians could not reach Parliament as a result of a protest staged near Parliament today.

Wickremesinghe said the Speaker should ensure the privilege of a Parliamentarian is not violated.

He said the Speaker can speak to the police and consider giving protesters land to protest without blocking the Parliament road. (Colombo Gazette)
