Special traffic plan for May Day celebrations

The Police Headquarters has issued a special traffic plan in view of the May Day celebrations, which will be held today.

Since the UPFA main May Day celebrations will be held at Colombo Municipal Council grounds, Baseline Road from Dematagoda Junction to Borella Junction and the road from Cemetery Junction to Mahawatte Junction will be closed or restricted for traffic after 12 noon on 1 May.



Traffic will also be restricted from Borella to Maradana, Deans Road, Kannangara Mawatha, Ward Place, Lipton Roundabout, Borella Ayurveda Roundabout, Castle Street, Cemetery Road and Thimbirigasyaya Road (from Torrington Avenue to Mahawatte Junction).

The JVP May Day rally is scheduled to be held at BRC grounds. Saranankara Road, Pamankada Junction, Stafford Road and High Level Road from Kirulapone to Dickman’s Road will also be closed or restricted for traffic after 12 noon on 1 May.

Late President Ranasinghe Premadasa’s commemoration ceremony is to be held at Hulftsdorp Junction. Therefore, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Jethawana Road, Amar Barber Junction, Sumanathissa Mawatha, Sangharaja Mawatha, Technical Junction, St. Bastian Road and Mihindu Mawatha will be closed after 12 noon.

Vehicles entering Colombo from the Negombo/Kandy Roads should travel via Orugodawatte and turn right from Samantha Junction.

Vehicles from Piliyandala Junction should travel to Nugegoda Junction and via High Level Road to arrive and turn right from Kirulapone Junction to Baseline Road and travel to Narahenpita Junction, Thimbirigasyaya Junction and Duplication Road to arrive at Galle Face.
