Sri Lanka, China sign treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters

Sri Lanka and China have finalised a treaty between the two countries on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
The two countries have held negotiations on the treaty from 6 to 8 May in Beijing, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement yesterday.
“Through friendly consultations, the two sides reached agreement on all the terms of the Treaty,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
After the negotiation, heads of the two delegations have signed the minutes of talks and initialled the treaty.
The Chinese delegation was headed by Sun Ang, the Special Coordinator of Overseas Pursuit-Evasion and International Cooperation in Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Justice.
Deputy Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasuriya led the Sri Lankan delegation which included representatives from the Attorney General’s Department, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Sri Lankan Embassy in China.
