New Delhi: Sri Lanka has assured India that it is committed to the full implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, India said. “We have been assured and reassured by the leaders of Sri Lanka that they are committed to full implementation of the 13th Amendment,” the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said at the Ministry’s press briefing in New Delhi. “Our stand is that any decision taken by the Sri Lankan people and their leaders for its people should be implemented,” he said in response to the media queries on Sri Lanka’s Tamil issue. “We will go by what they have told us,” he added. India has consistently said that it firmly supports the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution, which was introduce through the Indo-Lanka Accord in 1987, and it should be fully implemented with no dilution or abolition.
