Sri Lanka committed to World Peace - President

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that Sri Lanka is committed to peace building and will give all possible support for world peace when he met a delegation from Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).

A CTBTO delegation led by the Executive Secretary of the organization Dr. Lassina Zerbo met President Maithripala Sirisena Saturday at the President’s Official Residence in Colombo.

The President appreciated the visit of the delegation from the CTBTO Preparatory Commission which is in Sri Lanka to conduct a program to provide training on the actions to be taken and to minimize damage in case of a nuclear explosion.

These representatives met with the President during their training program being held at the Kandalama Hotel, Dambulla from 29thNovember to 05thDecember. Nearly 100 persons representing 13 countries including Sri Lanka participated in the program.

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization is an international organization that will be established upon the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, a Convention that outlaws nuclear test explosions.

The representatives apprised the President of the importance of endorsing initiatives taken by the Organization and the President assured that Sri Lanka as a country, which is committed to world peace, will provide every possible support in this regard.

Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Dr. Kithsiri Dissanayake, Director General of the Bureau Dr. Bernard Prem and officials from Foreign Ministry also participated in this meeting.
