Sri Lanka condemns terrorist attack in Pakistan, calls to eliminate terrorism

The Government condemning Sunday’s terrorist attack on a park in Lahore, Pakistan, which killed more than 70 people, including children, called for South Asia to unite to eliminate terrorism from the region.

President Maithripala Sirisena took to the Twitter to express his condolences to the loved ones of the victims and called for South Asia to unite against terrorism.

“My condolences are with the loved ones of the victims of the Lahore attack. South Asia must unite to eliminate terrorism in the region,” the President said.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mahishini Colonne on behalf of the Government said in a Twitter message that Sri Lanka’s thoughts and prayers are with the injured and bereaved of the victims.

“Sri Lanka condemns the terrorist attack in Pakistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and those grieving the loss of their beloved,” the message said.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter group of the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack which targeted the Christians celebrating Easter at the Gulshan Iqbal Park in Lahore. Over 300 people have been injured in the attack.

Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussain strongly condemned the attack, and the regional government has announced three days of mourning.
