On the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Ministry of External Affairs has arranged to dispatch a consignment of flood relief goods such as tea, biscuits, sleeping bags, bed sheets, exercise books and medicines to the flood affected people in the Sindh Province in Pakistan.
G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, handed over a token donation of relief goods to Seema Illahi Baloch, High Commissioner of Pakistan in Colombo at the Ministry of External Affairs today and reiterated the value Sri Lanka places on the strong and friendly relations with Pakistan.
The floods in October this year affected over four million people, and damaged 2.5 million acres of crops and one million houses in all 21 districts of Sindh Province in Pakistan.
The flood relief goods were donated by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Disaster Management, Sri Lanka Tea Board and Ceylon Biscuits Ltd.
