Research on Buddhism and Buddhist philosophy has created great interest among non-Buddhist western scholars. On the request of the graduate and undergraduate students following anthropology, sociology and philosophy courses at the University of Warsaw, the Embassy took the initiative to donate books on Buddhist philosophy and Buddhism to the main library of the University of Warsaw. The Embassy organised this event under the patronage of the Post-graduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies and Venerable Halyale Wimalarathana Thero, President of the International Buddhist Foundation in Geneva. Ven. Wimalarathana Thero had made arrangements with the Buddhist Publication Society to donate more than 50 books on Buddhism. At this event, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Poland D.S. De Silva, discussed with Prof. Jolanta Sierakowaska, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies the possibilities of having numerous programs such as exchange of students and academic staff between the University of Warsaw and Universities in Sri Lanka. Sierakowaska welcomed this proposal and both parties agreed to request their respective Governments to expedite the signing of the proposed ‘Agreement on cultural, education and scientific cooperation’ in order to facilitate this program. Further, both parties agreed to take steps to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Warsaw and the University of Colombo.
