The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday claimed that it stands united as a political party contesting the 17 August Parliament election.

SLFP General Secretary AnuraPriyadharshana Yapa said that the main goal of the SLFP at the polls next month was to defeat the Government and make former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the prime minister.

“We want to install a people’s Government after 17 August,” the SLFP General Secretary said.

Yapa accused the Government led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of limiting most of its commitments to words instead of action.

He said that the development of the country had been stalled after the new Government took office.

The former Minister also said that the new Government had turned its back on the countries which were very close to Sri Lanka.

Yapa called on the public to support the SLFP and the United People’s Freedom Alliance as it looked to make Rajapaksa the next prime minister and form a new government for a new beginning. (Colombo Gazette)
