Sri Lanka, Israel discuss moves to boost bilateral ties

The newly appointed Israel Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alon Ushpiz paid a courtesy call on Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development yesterday at the Ministry of Economic Development.

Discussions were focused on how to strengthen and boost the friendship and effective cooperation between the two nations. They discussed about Economic, Cultural and Scientific relationship between two countries.

Since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, she has established and marinated relations with many nations around the world. Sri Lanka commenced diplomatic relationship with Israel in the 1980s and since then Sri Lanka has a close relationship with Israel.

The Israel government supported the development of Sri Lanka even during the period of the war.

Israel has achieved the highest agricultural development in the world. The climate pattern in Israel is not favorable for agriculture. But they do their cultivation even in deserts using advanced technologies of water management.

Israel is rich in technology in the areas of water management, education as well as infrastructure development.

 The Ambassador expressed his interest in the transfer of the technology and scientific knowledge for the benefit of the agricultural sector in Sri Lanka, especially in the areas of potato and mango cultivation and the use of the sprinkler system for the agriculture sector.
