Sri Lanka marks World Environment Day emphasising sustainable use of environment

Sri Lanka yesterday marked the World Environment Day at a national ceremony held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Edward Grounds in Matale.

This year Sri Lanka marked the international day under the theme “Sustainable Use - Protects the Earth”.

At the event the President was presented with the national policy, strategy and action plan to control the spread of foreign invasive species.

The President also awarded prizes to the winners of the oratory competition held in parallel to the World Environment Day.

Maha Sangha and religious leaders of other faiths, Ministers and parliamentarians, diplomats and senior government officials participated in the occasion.
