Sri Lanka Navy arrests two trying to smuggle 5 kilograms of gold to India

Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday arrested two Sri Lankans attempting to smuggle a stock of gold to India across the northern seas by a fishing boat.

Naval troops apprehended two persons, in the sea area west of Thalaimannar while they were attempting to transport 5 kg of gold in a dinghy, disguising themselves as fishermen.

On receipt of intelligence by SLNS Gajaba located in Mannar belonging to the North Central Naval Command, sailors onboard P 223 Inshore Patrol Craft made the raid and managed to recover the stock of gold.

The suspects, residents of Mannar and Silawathura area, along with gold are to be handed over to the Custom officials of Jaffna for onward legal action. (ColomboPage)
