SRI LANKA Pakistan Friendship Association (SLPFA) in association with the Pakistan High Commission will mark Sri Lanka’s 63rd year of Independence on 13 February, at the Women’s International Club.
At the request of the Patron of the Association - Seema Illahi Baloch, SLPFA will be holding a celebration of national importance to Sri Lanka. An interesting programme is being lined up by the Chairman of the organising committee — General Srilal Weerasooriya (former Army Commander, former High Commissioner to Pakistan and former President of SLPFA) and ably supported by the officials of the High Commission of Pakistan, the President of the Association — Ifthikhar Aziz, and members.
As part of the programme, the strong bonds of friendship that exist between the governments and the people of Sri Lanka and Pakistan will be depicted through traditional and cultural events – the Sri Lanka Army Cultural Troupe will perform traditional low country and up-country dances, in addition to Bharatha Natyam and fusion dancing will part of the evenings programme. Traditional arts and craft will be on display. Of significance is the fact that the idea was mooted by the High Commissioner to which SLPFA responded spontaneously, which further underscores the friendship and cooperation that is prevalent between the peoples of the two countries and that which has stood the test of time.
The event, the organising committee says, would be one that will long be remembered, and members and guests are assured of an enjoyable time.
