Sri Lanka to hold C’wealth Youth Forum in Hambantota from November 10-14

Sri Lanka will hold the Commonwealth Youth Forum from 10 to 14 November at the Hambantota International Conference Hall in the south.



The Commonwealth Youth Forum will coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to be held in Colombo from 15 to 17 November.

Around 500 local and foreign representatives from 54 Commonwealth countries are expected to participate in the inaugural ceremony.

The Cabinet has approved the Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dullas Alahapperuma’s proposal to proceed with the program.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has proposed appointing three committees for policy decision making at ministerial level to oversee the extensive preparatory arrangements that are underway to host the CHOGM in Colombo and the Cabinet has approved his proposal.

Senior Minister of International Monetary Co-operation Dr. Sarath Amunugama will chair the Committee on the Commonwealth Business Forum while Minister Alahapperuma will be the chairman of the Commonwealth Youth Forum. Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella will be leading the Committee on Media and Public Relations.
