Sri Lanka wants closer ties with Iran, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Iran Mohammad Feisal Razin was quoted in the media as saying.
Ambassador Mohammad Feisal Razin said that his country is looking for ways to expand cultural and tourism relations with Iran, particularly with the country’s central city of Isfahan.
“Iran is very different from other Middle Eastern countries and has culture and a very unique people,” the Sri Lankan envoy, who is on a trip to Isfahan, told the Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday.
“In other Middle Eastern countries, all people are closed and self-centered but I found Iranians very open and receptive, especially the people of Isfahan…” Razin said.
Earlier in January, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen expressed his country’s willingness to employ Iran’s technical expertise, saying Colombo looks for the broader presence of the Iranian investors in the Southeast Asian country.
In a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister in Tehran, Bathiudeen described bilateral relations between Tehran and Colombo as friendly, saying his country wanted to utilise the Islamic Republic’s engineering consultation.
Bathiudeen was in Tehran to participate in the 10th session of Iran-Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission. (Colombo Gazette)
