Sri Lankan community holds Iftar in Dubai

Members of the Sri Lankan community, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, organised a community Iftar on 2 July within the consulate premises.

Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Muslim religious leaders were also invited to participate in this Iftar, which was described as “an evening of friendship, caring and sharing in the true spirit of the holy month of Ramadan.”

Members of other Sri Lankan organisations based in Dubai and Sharjah were also invited to the event. Several of the religious leaders present at the event blessed the country and people of Sri Lanka, praying for a brighter future, prosperity and peace during the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking at the occasion, Sri Lanka Consul General Abdul Raheem congratulated the Sri Lankan community for organising a multiethnic Iftar.

As the Sri Lankan Government is in the midst of reconciliation, such multiethnic Sri Lankan events in Dubai will definitely bring all communities, ethnicities and religions together for a united Sri Lanka. More than 200 Sri Lankans participated at this event which concluded with the serving of traditional Sri Lankan vegetarian food.
