Sri Lankan national charged with murdering Bangladeshi man in Malaysia

A Sri Lankan national was charged in a Malaysian Court yesterday for the murder of a Bangladeshi man, Malaysian National News Agency Bernama reported Friday.



Ipoh Magistrate’s Court Friday charged the Sri Lankan, identified as Thaluka Awantha Kuhanige, 19, over the murdering of Bangladeshi national Reazul Islam Saha, 43.



Saha was killed at the five-foot walkway of Restoran Candy Bar, Persiaran Pulai Baru 2, Taman Muda in Simpang Pulai in Ipoh between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on 19 May.



The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death sentence upon conviction.

However, no plea was recorded after the charge was read before Magistrate Haslinda A.Raof. The Magistrate set the court to hear the case on 7 August. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Fadhil Ab Wahab, while the accused was represented by lawyer V. Ravindran.
