Sri Lanka’s new ambassador to Iraq presents credentials

Sri Lanka’s new ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, Major General (Rtd) Niranjan Asoka Ranasinghe presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Iraq Fuad Masum, on 30th August at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad. The ambassador was accompanied by Embassy Attaché M.Y.M.Rizab, and official Translator of the Mission Ali Dhafer. 

Following the Credentials Presentation ceremony, the ambassador was given an audience with the President of the Republic of Iraq. The ambassador conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of Sri Lanka to the President of Iraq. In turn the President requested the ambassador to convey his greetings and best wishes to Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka. 

The ambassador thereafter briefed the President of Iraq about the many significant developments that have taken place in Sri Lanka since January 2015, under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. 

Iraq President Fuad Masum commended the significant progress made by Sri Lanka in various fields, under the new Government. The discussion focused on further strengthening the sturdy ties that exist between the two countries at present. 

The ambassador thanked President Fuad Masum for the goodwill and valuable support that the Republic of Iraq had shown towards Sri Lanka in the past and assured Sri Lanka’s continued support for Iraq in future too.
