SriLankan Airlines brings back more stranded passengers from India

SriLankan Airlines operated a special flight between New Delhi and Colombo yesterday (8) to bring back 305 passengers who had been stranded by the floods.

Flight UL1191, an Airbus A330 aircraft, was operated from Colombo to New Delhi and returned on Tuesday evening. This followed the airline flying back 120 stranded passengers from Bodh Gaya last Sunday on a special flight, who had been stranded following a pilgrimage to the Buddhist holy city.

SriLankan and budget carrier Mihin Lanka have been working to bring back passengers from India who have faced difficulties due to the acute flooding which has caused havoc across many of India’s southern states. Sri Lanka’s national carrier has been coordinating the flights with Sri Lanka’s High Commission in New Delhi and airport authorities in India.

Passengers of many airlines have faced severe difficulties due to the closing of flooded Chennai airport for four days.
