Staff of Ministry of Defence celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year

All employees and their family members of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development arrived at the Police grounds to celebrate the traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year on Saturday.

The event was organised by the Defence Ministry’s Welfare Association for the second consecutive year.



Secretary Defence and Urban Development Ministry Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Chairperson of Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit, Ioma Rajapaksa participated as chief guests adding more glamour to the occasion.

Competitors with their family members participated in various games and activities organised for them. New Year events such as pillow fight, tug of war, Avrudu kumari and Avurudu kumara were also conducted and winners were awarded with gifts.

Additional Secretary Defence S. Hettiarachchie, Additional Secretary (Administration) R.M.I. Rathnayake, Additional Secretary (Police and Civil Security) D.M.S.D. Jayarathna, Additional Secretary (Technical) Rohan Senevirathne, Director General Media Center for National Security Laksman Hulugalla, Military Liaisons Officer Major General (Rtd) Palitha Fernando, Chief of National Intelligence Major General (rtd) Kapila Hendavitharana, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force and many other distinguished guests participated in the Traditional Sinhala-Hindu New Year Festival.
