President Mahinda Rajapaksa unveiled a commemoration bronze statue of Ven. Welivitiye Sri Soratha Nayaka Thera yesterday (17 July) at the Sri Jayewardenepura University premises to mark the Ven. Thera’s 50th death anniversary.
Ven. Sri Soratha Thera was instrumental in obtaining university status for the Sri Jayewardenepura University, which was called as the Vidyodaya Pirivena then. Ven. Soratha Thera dedicated his entire life to the Vidyodaya University, which was later called the Sri Jayewardenepura University. He toiled tirelessly to uplift the status of the university to meet world standards said Sri Jayewardenepura University Vice Chancellor Dr. N. L. A. Karunaratne while delivering the welcome speech.
