A UK student visa applicant was arrested for fraud because she submitted a false education certificate with her visa application recently.

The UK Border Agency referred the case to the Sri Lankan Police. The applicant claims that she paid an agent to provide her with the false document.

UK Border Agency’s Entry Clearance Manager, Claire Murray, said: “Please do not submit false documents or listen to people who tell you to do so. We check documents thoroughly and, whenever we discover deception, we do not hesitate to take robust action against applicants and agents who supply false documents.”

In addition to the Police investigation, the applicant also faces a ban of 10 years on all travel to the UK.

The UK Border Agency in Colombo has identified over 550 false documents submitted by Tier 4 student applicants so far this year.  All applicants who had provided a false document as part of their student visa application have had their visa applications refused.  They have also have been banned from travelling to the UK for 10 years.
