Sunday swearing-in of new Chairmen and Mayors

The swearing-in ceremony of the Chairmen and Mayors elected for the 21 local government bodies won by the United People’s Freedom Alliance in last Saturday’s election will take place on Sunday.

They are scheduled to take their oaths before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a ceremony to be held at the Presidential Secretariat.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils has made arrangements to provide training for the newly-elected Councillors. Secretary to the Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka said the training would commence from the first week of next month at district level.

The first workshop of the programme will be held in Gampaha. The training includes local government law, political ethics and many others related to local government procedures.
