The Supreme Court has rejected a petition requesting an order be given to the Parliament Secretary General to restore the parliamentary seat of Democratic Party leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.

The fundamental rights petition filed by Field Marshal Fonseka’s Secretary Senaka de Silva had stated that Fonseka should be reinstated as an MP after he was pardoned by President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Attorney General, who filed preliminary objections, stated that Fonseka’s FR petition had no legal basis whatsoever.

Accordingly, the panel of Supreme Court judges, chaired by Chief Justice K. Sripavan, rejected Fonseka’s FR petition without granting leave for hearings.
