Symposium on PPP towards disaster resilience and sustainable development in Jaffna

The Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Sri Lanka will convene a symposium on ‘Public-Private Partnership Towards Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development’ in Jaffna on 5 October.

The conference will assemble foreign delegates from over six countries of the Asia Pacific as well as local dignitaries and representatives of the public and private sectors. The occasion will be graced by the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Suganuma Kenichi, Director General of the Disaster Management Centre, Maj. Gen. L.B.R. Mark who will be attending as Guest of Honour and N.Vethanayahan, the Government Agent of the Jaffna District, who will be the Chief Guest at the event.

With a priority focus on creating disaster resilient communities and promoting a better public-private partnership in mitigation efforts and capacitating the private sector in disaster resilience, the event will take place in the Jaffna peninsula this year in order to locally encourage disaster resilient businesses on a common platform.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in liaison with the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies will facilitate the programme which will also conclude the A-PAD Sri Lanka Photography, Cartoon Drawing and Essay Writing Competition which is currently being conducted in the Jaffna District for youth and interested participants in the region. The half-day event will be held at the Tilko Jaffna City Hotel.
