Tamil language training for Tri Forces

The Joint Services Language Training Centre established by former National Security Minister Lalith Athulathmudali in 1986 has provided Tamil language training to over 80 officers and 7,338 personnel of other ranks by 2014. According to the training centre’s Commanding Officer Major Wasantha Bandara, this centre provides language training to members of the Tri Forces and the Police. The centre is aimed at developing Tamil language proficiency among members of Security Forces and the Police. A number of programs are also organised to promote Tamil reading, writing and speech among the participants, Bandara said. Speaking at a press briefing at the Media Centre for National Security he said this centre established under the motto ‘Save the Country by Learning the Language’ also organised a number of programs with Tamils schools in the Nuwara Eliya District to promote the knowledge of Tamil language among participants.
