Task force appointed by Ranil to implement proposals to protect women

  Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday appointed a task force to implement the proposals of the Violence Committed against Women and Children Commission report submitted by the National Committee on Women. Wickremesinghe made this announcement at a national women’s day function held in Anuradhapura yesterday where he emphasised that it is the responsibility of the task force to implement these proposals before 8 March next year. This commission was established by Wickremesinghe during his tenure as the Opposition Leader while last week its report was presented in Parliament by Minister of Women’s Affairs Chandrani Bandara. The Chairman of the task force is Professor Savithri Gunasekara while Professor Selvi Thiruchelvam acts as its Executive Director. The other members are Professor Kamina Gunaratne, Kumudini Samuel, Professor Sepali Kottegoda, Chulani Kodikara, Green Saroor, Ambria Haniffa, Shanthi Sachithanandan, Professor Anusha Edirisinghe and Professor Anurudhi Edirisinghe.
