Thai Princess visits Sri Lanka on President’s invitation

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand arrived in Sri Lanka on August 19 for a four-day visit on the invitation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Princess participated in several cultural events in Colombo organised by the Ministry of cultural affairs. Princes Sirindhorn accompanied by President Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa visited the Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy on 20 August. Ambassador of the Royal Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka, Poldej Worachat and Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Nilanga Dela also joined them. During this visit the princess viewed the final Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Perahara. President Rajapaksa and the First Lady hosted Princess Sirindhorn to a banquet at the President’s House in Kandy on 20 August evening. During her stay in the island, Princess Sirindhorn will attend various activities and visit places of religious, historical, and cultural significance such as monasteries and the National Museum. The Princess’s visit comes at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 260th anniversary of the establishment of the Siam Maha Nikaya in Sri Lanka. Following the conclusion of Sri Lanka visit, the Princess is scheduled to depart for the Maldives.
