The Kotte Municipal Council is reportedly in the balance with four ruling party members set to crossover to the Opposition, sources told the Colombo Gazette. UPFA Kotte Municipal Council member Dhanuka Vishwajith has already announced he will back Opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena and three others are expected to follow him. Kotte Mayor Janaka Ranawaka, when contacted by the Colombo Gazette, said that he hopes to brief the media tomorrow on the developing situation. The Kotte Municipal Council has 20 members of whom 14 are from the governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and six from the Opposition. However with four UPFA members joining the Opposition, both the Government and the Opposition would have 10 members each. The balance of power would shift to the side which gets one more provincial council members to cross from either side.
