Three local Govt. elections postponed

The Election Secretariat has decided to postpone elections for three local government bodies — Chilaw, Puthukkudyiruppu and Muhudubada Paththu.

The election for the Chilaw Pradeshiya Sabha was postponed due to a candidate filing a petition in court. Elections for the other two local bodies were postponed due to delay in demining in these recently liberated areas.

These three local government bodies were among the 67 remaining local government bodies for which the elections are scheduled for 23 July.

The elections for these local government bodies were postponed mainly due to legal action when the government held elections for 234 of the 335 local authorities in the country on 17 March this year. (www.colombopage.com)
