Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa handed over land title deeds to war heroes at a function held at the Ministry premises yesterday. The event was organised by the Tri forces and the Police Welfare Unit. Nine war heroes from the Army, Navy and Police received title deeds from the Defence Secretary at the ceremony.
Acting under the guidance of Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Thero, retired civil engineer D.M.S. Wijayasinghe of Pitakotte had donated the land (104 perches) situated at Meewitigama, Urapola in Attanagalla.
Speaking at the event, the Defence Secretary said that a number of projects have been launched by the Government and the Seva Vanitha Units of the tri forces and police in order to uplift the living standard of the war heroes. He also said that 50,000 houses have been given to war heroes under the directives of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Chief Incumbent of the Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Dr. Pannila Sri Ananda Thero, Deputy Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Director Tri forces and Police Welfare Unit Malkanthi Jayawardane, Maj. Gen. W.R. Wasantha Kumara and a number of other officials were also present at the occasion.
