  •  Party’s CM candidate Justice C.V.   Wigneswaran to file his declaration next week
  • Deadline for submissions on 30 August
The leadership of the Tamil National Alliance has directed all its candidates contesting on the ITAK ticket at the forthcoming Northern Provincial Council elections to file their asset and liabilities declaration by the 30 August deadline, the party’s media wing said. The TNA will be contesting the Northern elections under the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi’s (ITAK) House symbol. Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, the TNA’s Chief Ministerial candidate, will also file his declaration next week, the party’s media office said, responding to questions on the social media network Twitter. Hailed by Twitter users for the decision, the TNA media office said the Party appreciated concerns and questions on accountability of those aspiring to public office on its ticket. The questions were posed after Transparency International Sri Lanka revealed yesterday that 99% of candidates in the fray for the Northern, North Western and Central provincial polls had not yet submitted their asset declarations as required by election law. TISL has threatened legal action against those candidates who fail to comply before the 30 August deadline. 3,785 candidates will contest at the 21 September provincial polls. (DB)
