The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to control the activities of the army in the north. TNA MP Suresh Premachandran said that mass roundups and search operations being carried out by the army in the north had spread fear among the people. “The Government is talking about reconciliation but there is a fear psychosis spreading among the people in the north. As the Defence Chief the President must urgently address this issue,” Premachandran said. He said that yesterday the army had conducted search operations in Kopai asking people to show identification documents. He also said that road blocks have re-emerged in coastal areas of the north while some people, including local fishermen are being arrested on suspicion. The Government had recently said that there are credible reports that the LTTE is attempting to regroup in the north. (Colombo Gazette)
